This is Alphonsine and her 3 sons.  She is a mother who is terribly sick and can’t care for her children.  She was a prostitute for many years and has to go to Byumba (1.5 hours north) for operations on her womb.  She has had 16 operations so far.  She has nowhere to live, so the mayor is allowing her to live in one of the rooms at the police station.  He asked many locals to bring her some food from their gardens.

Her oldest son is Claude and he is 5 years old. The other 2 little boys are twins and they’re SO cute! Their names are Mugisha and Iramfasha (right).

The April 2010 team met this family, fed them, gave them gifts, and loved on them.  Then a few of the Canadians immediately started sponsoring the children!
