Got a note a from Bahati. Bahati is a young man whose enthusiastic work has graced the offices of Home of Hope Rwanda.

He sent an email explaining a situation he obviously could not sit idly by and not bring it to our attention. He wrote about a woman named Saraphine. Saraphine’s situation is dire and this poor woman has three children to care for, feed and try to give life to. Her husband has left her and the three children to fend for themselves. When she first came to Hope of Home she had no skills, no means of providing for her children. The staff at Home of Hope decided she made a good candidate for the sewing lessons. They began to teach her but unfortunately soon ran out of funds to continue the lessons. This saddens the staff greatly. All that was left was 2 months of lessons. Bahati decided to write us and ask us if we knew anyone who would be interested in sponsoring this woman, really this family.

She requires 2 months of lessons which cost 40,000 francs or $67 dollars. It would be great to get her a sewing machine which also only costs 85,000 francs or $142.00 dollars. To us this is such a small amount but when you have nothing and I mean nothing this is impossible to imagine.

When you think about it that’s just 13 days of your daily Starbucks drink. ..a couple of dinners out for two people. Can you imagine transforming that spending into something that makes a family self-sufficient? Something that will feed three small children and their mother?

Maybe your small group or bible study would like to sponsor this woman. Maybe a small woman’s group would like to be that hand up to another woman a world away. This might be a time when a group can become connected to people in a place where they are literally starving for connection.

Change a life in 13 days… not impossible. By the way Saraphine… her names means “God will increase” helps us do that.
